Archives of the Future

Archives of the Future image
Archives are often seen as portals or documentation of past events. Yet if alternative more progressive histories are considered, the archive must always be questioned, relived and re-perfromed. This course will explore contemporary artists that re-visit, question, preserve and destroy the archive. Works discussed in class will include: Creative Time’s “Living as Form,” Zoe Leonard’s “Fae Richards,” Walid Raad’s collaborative projects with the Atlas Group and Eduardo Abaroa “The total Destruction of the Anthropology Museum.” As a final project the class will create a collective time capsule that imagine a projected future.
