CUT IT OUT! Creating Political Prints

CUT IT OUT! Creating Political Prints image
Tired of sending tweets and facebook posts?  Feeling powerless and want to do something more? This is the class for you!  Printmakers have had a long and venerated history of creating politically motivated prints. From Kathe Kollwitz and the defiant stance, she took against her native German government to Leopoldo Mendez and his political prints essential to the Mexican Revolution. Students will learn traditional methods to design, transfer, and carve woodblock prints. Throughout the class students will gain an understanding of the role of prints in political activism, how to prepare and carve a block, and print an edition of 20 prints on a press. It promises to be fun and fruitful and you just may spark a revolution.
