Looking at Photographs

Looking at Photographs image
What makes a great photograph tick? What makes some images have a vibrant spirit about them, but others seem flat or boring? In this course we’ll analyze both journalistic and art photos from daguerreotype to digital, drawing from critical sources as varied as Roland Barthes and Susan Sontag. You will learn to understand what elements make a photo work and how to apply that to your own photography (or collecting!). Students will share photographs they love and give and get feedback in a final peer-review session. Additional fee: George Eastman Museum $4 – free to Museum members.
