Understanding & Collecting Ceramic Art

The Flower City Arts Center has partnered with Rochester Art Collectors to bring a unique free event to the community. In anticipation of the Flower City Pottery Invitational exhibition in October nationally acclaimed ceramic artist Peter Pincus* will share his knowledge of pottery & ceramic art objects with you!

Get ready to see some super cool pottery and ceramic artwork at the presentation! Peter will bring examples of various ceramic pieces from his personal collection. He'll discuss the reasons he selected them and describe their significance. He'll also describe how artists manipulate and push the materials to achieve their creative goals.

After the presentation, you'll have lots of useful knowledge to help you understand, evaluate and purchase ceramic works for your collection. You'll be well prepared for the Pottery Invitational on October 11th through the 14th.

This event is free and open to the public. There will be a special reserved seating section for those members of Rochester Art Collectors and Flower City Arts Center who register for this event in advance.  Tickets can be found online through Eventbrite.

*Peter Pincus has been named a recipient of a 2017 Biennial Grant from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. His work has been exhibited in various venues, including the Salon Art + Design, New York City; SOFA (Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design) Chicago; Collective Design, New York City; Leslie Ferrin Contemporary, North Adams, MA; Lewis Wexler Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Duane Reed Gallery, St. Louis, MO; Impakto Gallery, Lima, Peru; and National Council on Education for Ceramic Art. His work can be found in numerous private and public collections.
