Art Law for Artists

Art Law for Artists image
Designed for artists, this course will discuss the basics of what artists need to know about how the law affects them. Topics will include artist’s rights of ownership and reproduction rights; exhibition and display; attribution, publicity and privacy; art fraud; and federal and state laws affecting the artist. Particular attention will be made to the meaning of the terms in gallery contracts and others that artists will typically face. The discussion will be illustrated with stories of situations in which artists unexpectedly found themselves entangled with the law – and how it all turned out.
