Ten-Nineteen (Return to Station): A 40 Year Retrospective

Exhibition Dates: January 11th - February 1st, 2013 in None

Reception: Friday January 11th, 5 p.m. - in None

A 40 year retrospective exhibition featuring the work of ceramic artists, teachers, and students associated with the Genesee Pottery throughout its history.

This all-encompassing exhibition will showcase the Pottery's 40 year history. Visitors to the show can expect to see work made by students juxtaposed with work by such well-established professionals as Mitch Messina, Tyler Gulden, and current Studio Manager Peter Pincus. (Currently featured in Ceramics Monthly's December issue, Peter took his first ceramics class here at the Pottery.) The exhibition will also feature archival photographs and video footage, and a timeline with personal written remembrances.

Since its inception in 1972 as a co-operative studio, the Pottery has gone through many changes to become the Rochester institution, and nonprofit community art center, it is today. From humble, hippie beginnings in a dank corner of the firehouse, this studio has evolved in to a destination for students, lovers of fine craft, and emerging artists from across the country.

Housed in an 1895 firehouse, the very name of the show Ten-Nineteen refers to a call for everyone to come back to the station, and help us celebrate 40 years of clay.
